A climate-responsive, biophilic home that reinterprets the Spanish Revival style and the Bryan, TX vernacular through modern forms, free-flowing spaces, and a dynamic conversation between rigid and fluid lines, and solid and transparent volumes.

The home’s open-concept layout and immersive views, especially on the public first and third levels, foster social connection, creative endeavors, and moments of relaxation, accommodating a wide range of day-to-day interactions between the resident and their environment.

A study of circles and cylindrical subtractions explores how primitive geometries can produce complex spatial moments within a 24 × 24 × 24′ volume. Limited radii lengths shape an organic, skin-like exterior that contrasts the orthogonal interior spaces and voids, revealing an underlying order within the irregular form.

A portion of the residence is suspended on pilotis to account for the steep, uneven terrain of the surrounding rainforest. The central courtyard allows trees to grow up through the heart of the house, giving the contrasting boxy, concrete geometry a breath of life.

This project focuses on translating the architectural, psychological, and emotional spaces within Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” through the utilization of layered spaces, M.C. Escher-like transitions, and the relationship between form and void.
